Dick Gregory as a stand up comedian is nowadays much forgotten. And it's a damn shame because everything he put out is somewhere between excellent and amazing. This is from the early period and it's hilarious. Especially the jokes about the KKK. It is as daring as that.
This one in particular is not as classic as Dick Gregory talks turkey but it is a bit easier to listen to given that the disc as 11 tracks of 2 to 5 min each, while the CD version of Dick Gregory talks turkey comes with only 2 tracks of 25min each. But that said, it is all great. Source: Amazon

Dick Gregory was never your classic stand up comedian. When he started, he raised issues in a way that was never done before, especially because nobody dared. And later on, his shows were more lectures and preach than comedy. It might sound like a bad idea but given the depth and the power of this CD, I don't think anybody will mind or complain.
This one is among the great ones, close to The Light Side-The Dark Side or DG's Frankenstein, some of the material can be found on the other CDs but there are always differences and it's a bit like Bill Hicks, very soon, you'll need them all. Source: Amazon

Published in 1968, this is Dick Gregory's platform as a write-in candidate for President. But it's much more than just that. Full of jokes, reflections, and great no-bullshit candor. Gregory seems to know he's a longshot and this allows for a very loose refreshing style on tightlip subjects such as race, violence, diet, etc. Also contains a lot of personal history (including many comments about his close relationship with MLK, written just months after King was assassinated), etc. This is a valuable piece of history to anyone interested in 1960s counterculture, civil rights, US history, etc. It's sad that a book as good as this has been out of print for nearly forty years. This book is also the originator of the "Reagan spelled backwards is Nigger" joke from the second side of SPREE (though the joke is performed by a different comedian on the SPREE record).
