Andrew Dice Clay - Face Down Ass Up 2000

Amazingly, this 1980s icon of sexual loathing and resentment has managed to keep his career going into the new millennium. All of the things the comedian is known for--misogyny, racism, free-floating anger--are on full display here. For Dice Clay, sex is an instrument of domination and humiliation. His riffs on the subject are repetitive and dull; the man makes any sex act sound as exciting as a plumbing maneuver. The comic's nasty remarks about Asians on "K2Y/China Diner" are as clichéd as they are awful. On "Midgets 2000" he goes after midgets with inexplicable hostility. Can this rant actually be considered comedy? Face Down, Ass Up's irritated trash talk feels like it goes on for hours. This is the work of one tired, juiceless bad boy. Dice Clay, or at least his comic persona, appears to be played out. ~Ian Conde Amazon

Andrew Dice Clay - Filth 1999

On: Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Andrew Dice Clay
Andrew Clay Silverstein

Filth finds Dice straddling the line between his legendary early material and the modern 'lame dirty comic' approach of Face Down Ass Up. Disc one is definitely the weaker of the two, wasting too much time on gross-but-not-very-funny sex jokes comparable - and at times identical - to those found in abundance on Drop Your Ass And Lift Up Your Butt. Eleven minutes of dull obscene rhymes sung to corny lounge jazz, segments with titles like "My Cum" and "Bongo Pussy," and impressions of Sammy Davis Jr., Sylvester Stallone and John Travolta that all sound remarkably like Andrew Dice Clay are not on my list of Andrew Dice Clay 'must-hear's, nor is yet another serious love song (!? WHY!?!??), so a lot of this one is as eh pbbllll as a frapp blll. It certainly has some truly witty moments though, including Dice's knockout review of Little House On The Prairie (starring "Michael Douglas" -- or "Asshole Cancer"), an inexcusably graphic description of a woman performing fellatio in a Chevron bathroom, and a pair of angry rants about midgets and people with big heads (that he would later revisit on Face Butt). ~excerpt, MPrindle

In his fifth comedy special Andrew Dice Clay is still funny but the special still doesn't hit the heights of "Dice Rules" as the best Diceman special ever in my opinion, "The Diceman Cometh" You get a tad less than an hour of comedy after the lackluster boxing opening skit. His best jokes of course revolve around various sexual acts as well as making fun of selected audience members. Sadly a few 'topical' jokes makes this special somewhat dated. But it IS a good return to form after the lackluster "For Ladies Only" special.

This one is really good. It is actually as listener friendly as Dice got (though the material is still extremely crude) because his lampooning of everyday shopping at the begining could make anyone laugh. The title bit is very funny and the rest of the record is quite funny. It falls apart a little at the end and the songs don't help but overall the CD is great. ~Amazon customer

Dice Rules is one of the most appalling movies I have ever seen. It could not be more damaging to the career of Andrew Dice Clay if it had been made as a documentary by someone who hated him. The fact that Clay apparently thinks this movie is worth seeing is revealing and sad, indicating that he not only lacks a sense of humor, but also ordinary human decency. Roger Ebert

Andrew Dice Clay - Day The Laughter Died 1 (1990) & 2 (1993)

On: Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Andrew Dice Clay
Andrew Clay Silverstein
Sep 29 1957 -
All right, people--I'll be the first to admit Dice is no comic genius. He had a good two-year run, made a feature film (Ford Fairlane) that tanked, p.o.ed a lot of people in the process, and you know what? He's still out there doing it!
The media circus has died down, and while most Diceheads got their kicks from his first album (simply titled "DICE") and the video that came with it ("The Diceman Cometh"), this two-CD tour de force came, saw, conquered, and it'll be back in an hour--get it?
With almost two hours to kill, from start to finish, Dice takes his time with the show, and organically spouts jokes that end up being riotous. By the end, the whole crowd realizes they've been part of something timeless, and 14 years later, this album is still funny as hell.
His act might have gotten stale, but this is THE quintessential Dice album to own. ~Amazon customer
