Bill Cosby - Talks To Kids About Drugs 1971

Bill Cosby
William Henry Cosby Jr
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
Jul 12 1937 -

If you think Mr. Huxtable is gonna just jive these kids about drugs, you got another thing coming. Bill gives it to them straight, with no dense chocolate-y pudding to cloud up their perception of just how bad getting on your own trip is. Aside from the typical cutesy-pie conversations with street kids, this record has some great musical backing. The stand-out tracks include Bill's simulation of getting high on "Downers & Uppers," Bill doing what could almost be considered a soul-less cover of James Brown's Public Enemy No. 1 on "People Make Mistakes," and the studio musicians tearing through some open drum breaks and wah drenched funk on "Dope Pusher" (while for some reason Bill shouts like a maniac through-out the whole thing). Cosby proves to the kids that he knows his shit and I think that he sums it up best on the back cover when he states, "the time spent acquiring a drug habit and kicking it is time you could have used to educate yourself." Nuff said!
